We have grown Walken oats for several years as a “winter” variety of oat.  They have enough cold tolerance to make it through most of our winters, if not all.  Walken is an old variety, but it is filling a need till we find anything better.  They can produce a large amount of forage in the fall, and in the spring.  They also have had very consistent grain yields.
